The Toxics Use Reduction Institute announced the appointment of Dr. David Turcotte as Interim Director of TURI.
Turcotte is currently a Research Professor Emeritus in the Department of Economics and the Principal Investigator/Director of The New England Consortium (TNEC). He has over 27 years of program management experience at UMass Lowell and served as Principal Investigator/Director on several U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Healthy Homes Technical Studies Program grants.
Turcotte was Co-Principal Investigator on a Center for Disease Control funded Green Housing study and a National Science Foundation funded Sustainable Energy Partnership project. He holds a Doctor of Science degree in Work Environment Policy/Pollution Prevention from the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
Turcotte succeeds Baskut Tuncak, who served as Director of TURI and Research Professor in Public Health from 2021 to 2025. During Tuncak’s leadership, TURI developed a new strategic plan, diversified its staff, and prioritized enhancing the visibility of TURI by disseminating news about TURI’s accomplishments and impact to wider audiences.
Established by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 1989, the Toxics Use Reduction Institute (TURI) is an independent government agency with a mandate to help protect workers, communities and the environment from toxic chemicals and pollution. Working in close collaboration with businesses of all sizes, as well as government agencies, local communities and international organizations, TURI helps identify actions companies and communities can take to protect workers and public health.
