Alan Henry is the Owner and President of at ChromeTech of Wisconsin, which he has run since 1984.
He is a second-generation plating expert, having begun his career with his father in the 1970s. His wife, Vicky, and sons Zach and Ross help run the operation, too.
How did you get your start in the finishing industry?
Alan HenryI was asked to run a shop while the owner was in the hospital. He never came back due to health. When I tried to buy it, they would not sell. I left and started ChromeTech. They went out of business two years later. Know when to sell.
What do you enjoy best about the industry?
I Have met some people I like and have done all right in it.

What's the most interesting thing you can see out of your office or kitchen window?
Out of my office window is the shop. Our new two hoist electroless nickel line is going up.

I say 7; my family says 3-4, maybe.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Consulting for my sons at ChromeTech. If they need me.
What was your first job?
I was working for a land surveyor at age 12 during the summer. I found that I liked to have my own money.
How many languages do you speak?
I have taken German and French in school. I can’t speak either one and struggle with English sometimes.
Who is the most intelligent person you know?
I will keep this to our industry: Frank Altmayer. He has always been willing to help me.
What is one thing you will never do again?
Start a new company without enough funds. ChromeTech was a struggle for a long time because of underfunding.
