Micron Industries in Garland, Texas, has acquired a shop for a second location and added a new bus bar plating service.
Guy SaenzMicron recently acquired the assets of AZZ Surface Technologies - Garland South, which marks a strategic expansion of Micron Industries’ capabilities in advanced metal finishing. Guy Saenz, CEO of Micron Industries, says by integrating AZZ’s technical expertise, workforce, and proprietary process, Micron is positioned to enhance operational efficiency, broaden its service portfolio, and strengthen its ability to meet the rigorous quality and compliance standards of the aerospace, medical, and industrial sectors.
“Our intent was not to acquire a corporation but to strategically invest in capabilities that align with our long-term growth plan,” Saenz says. “This allows our company to integrate proven infrastructure, talent, and customer relationships into Micron’s agile and innovation-focused business model.”
Enhance Current Capabilities
He says Micron’s approach to enhance current capabilities consists of stronger business continuity planning, expanded service portfolio, increased capacity and geographic reach, technical expertise and talent, and customer synergies.
“We have been interested and seeking opportunities for expansion since I joined the organization in January of 2024,” Saenz says, adding that the acquisition took several months before closing as AZZ was in the market for a partnership. The company did not face any challenges, as it was already interested in expanding and acquiring new services.
Corey Smith, Micron’s Director of Sales, says the acquisition brings additional benefits to its customers.
“It improves lead times, expands trucking capabilities and staffing, and adds another respected name to Micron Industries' growing portfolio of brands,” Smith says.
Adding Bus Bar Plating Process
Corey SmithMicron has also added bus bar plating, which involves coating conductive metal bars — commonly with silver, tin, or nickel — to enhance their performance in electrical systems. These metal bars, known as bus bars, are used to carry and distribute electrical power in equipment like switchgear and power distribution units. Plating enhances critical properties, including electrical conductivity, corrosion resistance, heat dissipation, solderability, and reliable electrical contact.
Saenz says that ensuring quality and durability in their bus bar plating process is Microns’ main goal.
“We’ll do this through a combination of rigorous process control, advanced technology, and industry-driven standards,” he says. “Beginning with a robust quality management system governing strict process controls, employing talent and focusing on continuous improvement, challenging our systems and processes.”
Amanda Sampson, Quality Manager at Micron Industries, says the company’s goal has been to expand and grow its customer base.
“We started to hear a recurring need for bus bar plating,” Sampson says, and her team quickly jumped into this by reaching out directly to customers to better understand the demand and figure out how we could step up to meet it.
Operating 40 Flight Bars Per Day
Amanda SampsonMicron operates a single production shift and processes approximately 40 flight bars per day, Sampson says, although this can vary depending on the size being run.
“We closely monitor our scheduling to ensure we’re consistently meeting or exceeding customer expectations,” she says. “Focus is always being responsive, reliable, and flexible for our customers.”
Saenz says Micron Industries is on track for substantial growth over the next 3-5 years, achieved through a combination of capability expansion, market focus, and operational excellence.
“We are actively evaluating opportunities to expand into industries where precision plating, high-reliability coatings, and advanced surface treatments are critical,” says Saenz, who adds that their team is exploring the medical devices, electric vehicle infrastructure, and semiconductor component market.
“These industries demand the exacting standards we’ve built our reputation on,” Saenz says. “We believe our capabilities — especially in precious metal plating and bus bar finishing — position us well to support their growth and compliance needs.”
