IFS Coatings Wins GM Product Approval

IFS Coatings has secured a General Motors materials specification approval for underhood and underbody components.

The IFS powder, available in several colors and textures, has dielectric and weathering properties.

IFS Coatings says this new powder coating will meet and exceed the performance requirements of the GM materials spec for underhood and underbody components and delivers dielectric strength of 57-68 kV/mm@ 50-100um and 40-46 kV/mm@ 180-200 um. The powder has also been tested against GM hardness, adhesion, humidity, scratch resistance, cyclic corrosion, gravelometer, chip resistance, and various chemical and flammability tests.

“Powders with both dielectric and weathering properties are not common, and this product allows automotive coaters to deliver both properties in one coat of powder,” says Harvey Johnson, Transportation Market Development Manager at IFS Coatings. “We’re so proud of the team that developed this incredible new coating and achieved approval from GM.”
